Mabelingwane Wild is situated in the Limpopo Province of South Africa approximately
165 km from Lepalale (Ellisras), 180 km from Mokopane (Potgietersrus) and 90 Km from
Alldays on the Tolwe - Maasstroom road, 25km from the Tolwe and 13km from the Maasstroom
post offices respectively. It is approximately 4600 ha in size and hunting is permitted
on approximately 4500 ha.
Summers are hot and dry; the nights are in the high teens while day temperatures
often peak in the mid to high thirties but can occasionally rise to over 40ºC. Rain
comes with the Inter-tropical Convergent Zone moving south-east from the Congo from
October to April. The early season has thunder showers which become more general
rain in the late season. Annual rainfall is approximately 300mm. The wind is commonly
east / north-east, fresh and gusty (up to 20 knots) giving rise to dust storms. Winters
are mild with temperatures rarely dropping below zero and peak at the mid twenties.
When there is moisture in the atmospheres there is a tendency to form high mist cloud
cover up to about 10h00.
